This study assesses the status, causes, and consequences of food loss and waste (FLW) in the districts of Banke, Surkhet, Dailekh, and Rautahat in Nepal, under CARE Nepal’s Mother and Child Wellbeing (MCW) Partnership Program, also known as Poshan. Food loss and waste undermine food security, nutrition, economic development, and environmental sustainability—especially in low-resource settings. The study identifies gaps in household behaviors, supply chain practices, post-harvest technologies, storage and transportation infrastructure, and policy implementation. It aims to provide actionable recommendations and evidence-based strategies for reducing FLW and promoting a gender-inclusive circular food economy.
